It’s been almost 2 years since I have adopted a plant based lifestyle. Inevitably the same question comes up each time someone discovers that I don’t consume animal products (well, most of the time… I don’t have a “cow” – see what I did there, if an egg or so occasionally slips into a dish. I haven’t become a vegan extremist… yet).
Where Do You Get Your Protein?
I’ve kept this image of top 10 plant based protein sources handy so I could quickly share it with those who ask. You get a lot of the nutrient benefits without the negative side effects associated with animal products.
As a result of adopting a plant based lifestyle I can testify to all of the benefits you’ve probably heard about i.e. Lower Cholesterol, Lower Blood Pressure, Lower Blood Sugar, Less Body Fat, More Energy, etc.
It’s takes a paradigm shift. Most of us have been indoctrinated at a young age to adhere to the Standard American Diet (SAD), which contains a lot of meat and dairy. It’s hard to change habits, but anything worthwhile is going to take effort.
I encourage you to try it. Don’t get frustrated if you fall off the wagon, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try again. Ease into it, maybe start with a “Meatless Monday” then expand from there.
Plan your meals and ensure you are eating whole unprocessed foods. You can’t eat pizza or french fries all day and expect to see and feel the benefits of going plant based.
Cheers and much success to you on the journey!
